Over the last 20 years, Dave Elley has been an integral part of the Raglan surfing scene, as well as scoring untold sessions on the Coromandel peninsula. When Hughsie moved to Raglan in about 1992 to start the Raglan Surf Co, he took over the premises from Matt Holl, who manufactured Ocean Rhythm Surfboards. The bonus was a 17 year old grommet named Dave Elley, who came with the building. There aren’t many surfers around this area that haven’t had a surfboard either glassed or repaired by Dave. He’s been riding Mickey T’s longboards for over 7 years now, and can still jump from 9’ longboard to 6’ shortboard with ease. A good surfer, and a friendly, approachable guy, he is a great representative of our boards. He also knows a lot more about surfboards than most people and is a great source of feedback. “Mickey’s been surfing this coast for 40 years and shaping for 35 years. He’s dedicated and passionate about creating the most hi-performance finest funboards and longboards. He’s patient and will listen to your needs and match you with a board that suits your ability. Next time you are heading out to the beach, stop in at Raglan Longboards and catch up with Mickey & Sunny. They would love to see you.”
